MANUAL THERAPY

What is Manual therapy?
It is a specialization area of the Physiotherapy that works the neuro-musculoskeletal (nervous, fascia-muscle and articular treatment) which is based on the clinical reasoning. It uses therapeutic approaches that include high speed manual techniques and short range of movement and therapeutic exercises. The manual therapy treats the patient as an indivisible whole.

Which is the objective?
Observing the patient, the joint locks can be felt as well as the areas with limited mobility in order to treat the injury softly and efficiently. It is always pretended to find the origin of the injury and the symptomatology of the patient.

What kind of patients is this indicated for
The manual therapy is indicated for young patients, adults, middle aged, pregnant and children.

Schools
Kaltenborn (Nordic School) is well known thanks to his complete system of Orthopaedic Manual Therapy (OMT); his disciple, New Zealander Brian Mulligan. In Australia, Geoffrey Maitland (Mulligan disciple) started with his therapeutic concept called Maitland Method. The Manual therapy is nowadays regulated by the International Federation of Manipulative Therapists (IFOMT). It’s a scientific society which depends of the World Confederation for Physical Therapy (WCPT).
